Brisbane has become trades skills central for the rest of the week as elite apprentices from across the country converge to battle it out for a chance to represent Australia.
The WorldSkills Australia 2025 National Championships & Skills Show had its official launch in preparation for three days of competition at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.

This high-energy event will see over 600 competitors go head-to-head across more than 60 skill categories, including carpentry, cabinetmaking as well as electrical installation.
This is alongside a host of other valued skills ranging from carpentry, plumbing, electrical installation, plastering and painting.
It will also include a host of other trade skills from cyber security, to barbering, from baking to floristry and many more.
Special venue
The MTA Queensland as a partner organisation is proudly hosting autobody repair and autobody refinish at a special venue.
The contestants have have all earned their place at the National Championships through rigorous regional competitions, that have tested their skills and helped them hone their craft.
The other great incentive for competitors is the Brisbane event serves as a potential stepping stone to the world stage.
The top performers may win a coveted spot in Team Australia (“The Skillaroos”), set to compete at the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai in 2026.
This global event will bring together around 1,300 competitors from over 60 countries, making it the largest skills showcase in the world.

WorldSkills Australia Chief Executive Officer Trevor Schwenke says it promises to be a thrilling event.
“With this being the largest National Championships in our 44-year history, visitors will witness an incredible skills showdown, cheer on competitors, test their own abilities at interactive exhibits, and meet some of the Skillaroos – Australia’s elite team who competed at Lyon 2024,” Schwenke says.
“As Australia faces a growing demand for skilled workers, this event highlights the exciting and rewarding career opportunities that a vocational education can unlock. Now more than ever, we need to inspire and support the next generation of apprentices and trainees.”
