For tradies using pliers regularly over long periods, especially electricians, ergonomics can be the difference between potential repetitive strain issues and injury-free job satisfaction.
Combine great ergos with the safety of 1000V insulation and you have the ERGO 1000V range of insulated pliers from Bahco.
Any tool specifically designed to reduce muscle tension and the risk of injuries and accidents while increasing productivity and profitability is always going to impress us, but Bahco’s ERGO range goes even further, with serrated jaws, hardened teeth and extra-large shoulders.

It’s an impressive list of well thought out features that have come straight from experienced sparkies who know what a tradesman needs.
- High-quality European manufacture
- Innovative design
- Enhanced safety and productivity
- Two-component ERGO insulated handles
- Phosphate anti-corrosion treated finish
- Improved accessibility in confined spaces
The soft TPE layer grip on the handle sits over a strong PP handle, making the tools easier and extremely comfortable to use, not to mention providing great functionality.
The user doesn’t have to grip as tight to perform tasks and therefore reduces muscle tension and strain.
The ERGO range includes various-sized Long Nose Snipe Pliers, Bent Nose Snipe Pliers, Side Cutters, Round Nose Pliers, Combination Pliers and Quick Adjust Water Pump Pliers, and the entire range has the dual-component handle and phosphate finish.
Every tool is tested for 10 seconds at 10,000V at the end of the manufacturing cycle, and has been designed and built to meet the highest demands of even the most testing worksites, all while bringing optimum productivity, profitability, quality, performance and innovation.
We caught up with talented sparky Stuart Innes from Innuku Electrical.
Stuart specialises in the supply and installation of high-end smart homes and automated electrical systems, and he was keen to give the ERGO range a try on his current worksite.
TEST #1: COMFORT AND CONTROL
The first test was really just a matter of getting the tools in the hands of Stuart’s team and letting them work.
“As soon as I picked up the first pliers I could tell how comfortable they were,” clenched Stuart. “The grip felt amazing and the shape of the handles fit perfectly in the hand.
“I also loved the wide shoulders of the pliers which, from a safety perspective, stop your hand or fingers sliding forward onto the live part of the tool. From a gripping and comfort aspect, this made for great workability. The comfort directly delivers precise control in sensitive areas and with electrical cables around live electricity. This control enhances productivity and in the long run will save time and enhance safety.”
TEST #2: SAFETY AND PERFORMANCE
The build quality of any tool will essentially determine its true value. The fact all Bahco’s ERGO pliers are built in the company’s factories across Europe, and have been designed and built to last and outperform their competition, means tradies experience the best performance on offer. This is evident when cutting through cables and challenging the hardened blades and serrated teeth.
“Electricians are pretty hard on their pliers,” watted Stuart. “A lot of the time their favourite set of pliers will be used for cutting a wide range of cable thicknesses, as well as cutting and removing screws, nails and other items. I have to say the cutting edges have stood up to some serious use over the past few days, with impressive results on both soft and hard wire.
“From the combination pliers cutting up to 2.5mm piano wire, and some of the other pliers easily cutting through substantially thicker copper, I have no doubts about the performance and quality of Bahco’s ERGO range.”
THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY
The ERGO range has ticked all the boxes for safety, performance and durability, and for an electrician of Stuart’s quality and experience to say Bahco ERGO pliers are up there with the best he has ever used is a pretty glowing and telling indication of the true quality of these hand tools.
