Tradie Tough Test: Warren & Brown Tools’ Deflecting Beam Torque Wrench

Size doesn’t matter, but performance does. Warren & Brown Tools shows this with its cutting-edge Deflecing Beam Torque Wrench.

Tradies have long relied on Warren & Brown Tools (WBT) for their amazing level of precision and overall longevity.

The Deflecting Beam Torque Wrench in particular has been a massive game-changer when it comes to delivering top-notch accuracy and design.

This tool is used for calibrating a vehicle’s torque; something many tradies can find themselves doing on  day-to-day.

This includes diesel mechanic Chris Galea from NAM Diesel Repairs, who needs a big-time torque wrench for big-time jobs working on massive trucks used at quarries and other heavy machinery sites.

For this, we needed the big guns, so we pulled out WBT’s two-metre-long Deflecting Beam Torque Wrench to work on a Komatsu ‘moxy’ dump truck at UKW Spares and Machinery in Campbellfield in Melbourne’s north.

Test #1: Set to stun

WBT’s Deflecting Beam Torque Wrench delivers precision within +/-2 per cent across the full torque range.

In other words — it’s super accurate.

Ensuring a vehicle’s torque is up to snuff is crucial for its steering and manoeuvrability.

Chris used the Deflecting Beam Torque Wrench to secure the ramp pins and rear torque rods on the wheels of the moxy, and appreciated the insane accuracy the tool delivered.

“It’s done really well,” Chris said.

“For a big wrench, it’s nice and light.

“We used it to test out the torque on some wheel nuts to make sure they’re torqued up.

“But there’s loads of things you can use them for like engine work.”

No matter the length, WBT’s Deflecting Beam Torque Wrench enables tradies to accurately tighten suspension bolts, ensuring proper alignment and secure attachment of various suspension components.

The wrenches have a torque range between 1Nm to 1,340Nm.

This level of overall precision trickles down to the end user; the driver who feels the difference in vehicle performance and comfort.

Test #2: Handle on things

WBT has spent more than 100-years fine tuning its Deflecting Beam Torque Wrench, and boy does it show.

The all-steel construction of each wrench ensures they’re as tough as the vehicles they work on.

“What I like about the wrench is the grip which is really good, even the big one is really comfortable to use,”
Chris said.

“Adjusting the wrench to the required torque was super easy too, just push the dial until it clicks and I’m set.

“That saves a fair bit of time, it slides real easy.”

A deflecting beam design means the tool is streamlined as well without internal springs or wearing parts, which makes it easy to use and long lasting.

Beamed up

WBT has a longstanding reputation for developing tools that last the test of time.

The Deflecting Beam Torque Wrench not only proves that, but also showcases the best in accurate torque setting.

Big jobs or small, WBT has a torque wrench available for any tradie and most vehicles.

Chris loved how simple the wrenches were to handle and adjust when working on the moxy, and was keen
to see just how much more he could throw at it on future jobs.

“These tools definitely get my tick of approval,” he said.

“I can’t wait to use this on-site for many more years to come.”
