Bosch’s latest generation laser distance measurer has an impressive range of 100m and fills the gap left by the discontinuation of the GLM 80 and GLM 100. But the GLM 100-25 C isn’t just for measuring simple distances.
It can be used for a vast number of tasks, including creating accurate floor plans and sharing information – pictures and notes – with clients and other trades. The GLM 100-25 C is as advanced as it gets for laser distance measurers. The screen includes a high-contrast IPS colour display and optical bonding with scratch-resistant glass, the digital viewfinder includes a zoom function for precise measurements over long distances, outdoors and in complex surroundings, and fast documentation is easy via Bluetooth or USB & the MeasureOn app.
Having the ability to measure area, volume, distance, level and plumb, as well as being able to set the tool to measure from either the front or back of the device, is very handy.
To produce accurate diagonal measurements, a foldout pointer allows measuring accurately from internal corners as well. Bluetooth connectivity to the Bosch MeasureOn App is a major feature of this tool. The ability to record and save measurements, as well as create projects and worksheets which can contain unlimited notes, info and measurements for the various rooms or aspects of the greater project, is massive. Being able to sketch rooms with your finger on the device screen is a great quoting tool as well.
The app turns the sketch into a floor plan with straight lines for wall dimensions, which can then, with the press of a button on the laser, add exact measurements. It can even share ideas on the fly with potential clients. We caught up with carpenter Bond… Blake Bond. Blake was ideal to test the Bosch as he currently owns the earlier version and could speak to the improvements on this great piece of equipment.
TEST #1: INDOORS AND OUT
For a tool that has some pretty sophisticated features, the GLM100-25 C is easy to use. After a short time getting familiar with the menu functions it’s good to go. “Getting accurate measurements on even large commercial sites in full sun is a breeze with this 100m range,” Blake 007’ed.
“The quality of the screen is excellent, and this, combined with the zoom, provides precision and accuracy. “The front and side measuring buttons are a great addition, and the ease of operation of both the tool and the MeasureOn software make using the features friendly and enjoyable. “I have owned a previous Bosch version, and this distance laser measurer is light years ahead.” He seemed shaken, but not stirred.
TEST #2: BUILD QUALITY AND FEATURES
The GLM 100-25 C has been built tough and is ready for the rigours of life on the worksite. “I love the fact Bosch has included a scratch-resistant cover glass and an IP 54 rating,” Blake serviced secretly. “
It makes the measurer perfect for dusty worksites and water spray. The pouch with clip is also a great feature, and it means there’s no need to put the Bosch in a nail bag where they often otherwise end up. “I love the range of measurements I can get thanks to the 360-degree tilt sensor, and having the date and time information stored in the memory provides improved documentation. “I have so many ideas on how I can use this tool to improve various aspects of my work. Everything from quoting and meeting with clients to sending accurate, up-to-date info to my tradies and contractors.”
THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY
The GLM 100-25 C has the same features as the GLM 150 C, except for its range. I’m pretty sure this device will blow the minds of tradies who are expecting it to only measure distances. The GLM 100-25 C is one sophisticated tool that will work well for a wide range of trades looking for easy and accurate longer measurements, as well as those looking to improve organisation and communication with other team members or trades.
