Free-diver Kimberly Matucci was almost engulfed by a huge shoal of shimmering blue maomao when she plunged into the dark water at a popular Kiwi dive site.
Blue Maomao Arch, just off Poor Knights Islands in New Zealand, is famous among divers for the massive marine manifestations that occur there. Kimbers works for eco-tourism outfit Dive! Tutukaka’ and usually hangs around with her blubbery whale chums.
A spot of free diving with the maomao can be a nice way to run out of oxygen at insane depth if there’s no Orcas about though, we guess.
The pictures were captured by hubby and dive instructor Simone Matucci, 34, who teaches in the area…maybe at this very school of fish. Who can say?
