Karl Reindler understands the extremes of being a V8 Supercar driver. The 26-year-old West Aussie was the toast of his home state after finishing a career high seventh in race one of the championship round at Perth’s Barbagallo Raceway.
Less than 24 hours later he was nearly toasted alive in a spectacular fireball.
Coming through from the back of the 28-car grid Owen was flat knacker in third gear when he freckle-punched Reindler’s Fair Dinkum Sheds VE. The fuel tank was ruptured, flames blossomed instantly. It seemed to take an eternity for Reindler to stagger from the inferno.
