NSW Building Commission estimates that approximately 70,000 plumbing inspections were conducted in the Sydney and Hunter area alone across the FY 2023-24.

In response, TAFE NSW, in collaboration with NSW Building Commission, has launched a Plumbing, Drainage and Gasfitting Regulation short course to upskill the workforce and support compliance across the NSW plumbing industry.

Developed in consultation with industry and subject matter experts, the new online short course, called, a Microskill, helps to provide the regulatory knowledge and best practice skills required by plumbing professionals to meet the State’s high standards of construction.

“This Plumbing, Drainage and Gasfitting Regulation short course will ensure tradespeople across NSW have access to some of the best training and resources available,” NSW Building Commission said.

“A capability uplift only helps people get better at their trade. With the flexibility this short course offers it can be completed online, at school or on the job, helping to increase time on site.”

The course is aimed at those working in the plumbing and drainage industry, including apprentices, contractors, tradespeople, and TAFE NSW students studying the Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services.

TAFE NSW students undertaking this qualification can enrol in the course fully discounted until 1st October 2025. So far, more than 1,286 learners have access to the Microskill.

Accessible through the Building Commission Construct NSW website, the course provides an engaging, flexible, and industry-responsive learning experience. Students can learn at their own pace and have access to the course for up to 6 months from the day of enrolment.
