Kennards Hire has acquired Solution Plant Hire, a specialist provider of earthmoving and compaction equipment.
The move significantly expands its fleet capability and strengthens its footprint in the civil construction and infrastructure sector.
The acquisition enhances Kennards Hire’s ability to support Tier 1 contractors and major infrastructure projects across Australia, particularly those requiring specialist compaction and earthmoving solutions across multi-site and long-duration works.
Expanding to meet infrastructure demand
With infrastructure investment accelerating nationwide, the enlarged fleet positions Kennards Hire to deliver dependable access to compliant, well-maintained equipment where consistent availability is critical.
David Schurman, General Manager, Fleet at Kennards Hire, described the acquisition as a major step forward.
“This is a significant step forward for the business enabling us to increase our ability to service large-scale compaction and earthmoving customers, a market which has seen substantial ongoing demand,” he said.
“We’ve seen a huge rise in requests from the civil contractors sector to be supported by one company across multiple project touchpoints and that’s where Kennards Hire comes in. The acquisition supports this demand — it’s a clear sign of our continued growth.”
Specialist fleet additions
The acquired fleet includes a broad range of specialist equipment, such as:
- 2.5T double drum smooth rollers, including CAT CB2.7 and Dynapac CC1200 series
- 12–14 tonne excavators
- 9T 4WD swivel tip dumpers
- Skid steers and forklift attachments
- Hydraulic breakers and specialist excavator attachments
- Large mud buckets and compaction attachments
- Additional dozer capability
Solution Plant Hire’s Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney sites are being integrated into Kennards Hire’s distribution centre network, with a new location opening in Tomago, NSW, to support the region’s growing infrastructure pipeline.

Leadership and new business unit
As part of the transition, Kennards Hire will launch a dedicated Earthmoving & Compaction business unit within its Specialist Solutions offering.
Craig McMahon, previously Area Manager for NSW’s Central West, has been appointed General Manager, Earthmoving & Compaction. Several Solution Plant Hire employees will also join the Kennards Hire team, bringing specialist expertise in equipment and solutions.

Chris Newton, Director at Solution Plant Hire, said the sale marked the next chapter after 13 years of growth in the dry hire market.
“Kennards Hire is a long standing client and we know SPH is in great hands to continue to grow with a network coverage, asset expansion and the common work ethics and standards that we share,” he said.
With its largest acquisition since 2012, the Australian-owned Kennards Hire continues to invest in fleet expansion, people and capability to meet the evolving needs of the civil and infrastructure sectors nationwide.
