Cement Australia has brought an environmentally sustainable Aussie-first to tradies that is packed full of innovation.
Cement Australia’s Low Carbon Cement provides users with a direct replacement to GP Cement, made right here in Australia, boasting 30 per cent less embodied carbon than GP Cement.
Game changing technology
Low Carbon Cement significantly reduces its environmental footprint with 30 per cent less embodied carbon than GP Cement.
How was Cement Australia able to do this? Its technical team has spent years of research and development developing GREENCEM® technology.
Cement Australia Product Development Manager Martin Lynch said the mixture for Low Carbon Cement uses supplementary cementitious material such as fly ash.
“The challenge with high fly ash content in cement and mortar is the reduced early strength” he said.
“The technology we’ve included in this new product boosts that early strength so it’s comparable to GP Cement.
“That’s something novel in the market, particularly for packaged cement – it’s the first of its kind in Australia.”
Being the equivalent to Cement Australia’s GP Cement, the Low Carbon Cement can be used for a variety of domestic and commercial jobs.
This includes construction on mortar, render, small concrete slabs, footpaths and footings.
Sustainable science
Australia uses a staggering 29 million M3 of concrete per year^. If Low Carbon Cement was only used in this concrete, tradies can help contribute to saving the same amount of carbon stored by 2,234,651 acres of forest*.
That would be a forest about the size of Melbourne.
“It’s rewarding to be a part of a company that has such an environmental focus,” Martin said.
To provide independent verification of Low Carbon Cement, Cement Australia has just released an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).
The EPD Australasia register hosts verified documents from brands across Australia that provide data on the lifecycle environmental impact of a product.
“We’re the first company in Australia to release a dedicated EPD for a packaged cement product via EPD Australasia,” Martin said.
Even more durable
As well as a lower environmental impact, tradies can also expect some other advantages of using Low Carbon Cement.
Concrete using Low Carbon Cement may require less water to achieve a suitable workability, pumpability and durability compared to concrete produced with GP cement.
All this innovation was made right here, with Cement Australia able to develop the Low Carbon Cement at its NATA-accredited testing laboratory in Brisbane.
“Our words are backed up by our laboratory testing and independently verified EPD,” Martin added. Cement Australia is currently rolling out its Low Carbon Cement across select projects, and tradies can trial
