When consistency of performance, strength and colour are high on your priorities for bricklaying materials, you won’t find a better mortar than Cement Australia’s Trade Mortar.
The new-look packaging is very stylish, and the ‘Made Right Here’ branding on the front is a reminder Cement Australia employs over 800 Aussies, that’s a lot of hard-working Australians contributing to making cement products locally.
Cement Australia’s Trade Mortar is the go-to option for the laying of bricks, masonry blocks, stonework and general-purpose mortar applications. The quality assured, preblended, M4 bricklaying mortar mix conforms to Australian Standards -AS3700, so you can trust the integrity and quality of the product.
TEST #1: EASE OF USE
When things go pear shaped with mortar mixes it’s usually because of batching errors with the sand and cement, often making for uneven colour throughout the job. Varying moisture levels in the loam can also add to colour variation. But neither of those is an issue using Cement Australia’s pre-blended products.
Bon Rich of BR Masonry was our WTW go-to guy for this test. Bon had a great project underway where his 8 brickies were slinging up walls quicker than I could keep up with my cameras and drone.
Being pre-blended, the labourer simply loaded three bags into the mixer, added a bucket of water, then repeated the process. In no time at all the mixer was full to the brim with beautifully consistent, ready-to-use mortar.
You won’t find a simpler process.
TEST #2: PERFORMANCE, STRENGTH & COLOUR
Watching Bon’s team work was just as impressive as the quality of the mortar mix.
I haven’t seen walls go up so quick in quite a while, and the quality of the work was excellent. Bon has built up an impressive list of high-profile builders and his team has an excellent reputation. Watching how well they worked together I could see why.
“The feedback from the boys, along with my personal opinion, is this is a great product,” Bon scotted.
“We were all impressed by the quality of the mix.
“A lot of the yellow sand we have been getting of late has a fatty element to it and we need to mix a bit of Sydney sand into it to get it to perform how we like; smooth with no lumps. The Cement Australia Trade Mortar actually outperformed our sand/cement mixes. It’s light and really nice to work with. Straight out of the bag it was smooth and looked the goods. Also, being a bagged product, you don’t have to worry about contamination of sand onsite or the consistency and quality of materials.”
THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY
Performance, strength and consistency of colour are the key requirements for brickies, and the Cement Australia Trade Mortar ticked all three boxes. The quality of Bon’s finished walls spoke for themselves, but it was also quite impressive to hear his glowing review of the product.
As Bon himself shared, “If the Trade Mortar didn’t cut the mustard the boys would have been the first to let us know.”
