Bosch Green Beam Distance Measurers

The GLM 50-27 CG & GLM 50-23 G Professional 50m Distance Measurers are accurate, very robust, and the GLM 50-27 CG will even send measurements via Bluetooth to the Bosch MeasureON app.

Bosch has just released not one but two new 50m Green Beam Laser Distance Measurers.

The GLM 50-27 CG & GLM 50-23 G Professional 50m Distance Measurers are accurate, very robust, and the GLM 50-27 CG will even send measurements via Bluetooth to the Bosch MeasureON app on a smartphone where it can not only store your info, but also create floor plans and projects.

The GLM 50-27 CG & GLM 50-23 G have raised the bar on their predecessors with the change from the red laser to the new green-beam laser. It’s the first time Bosch Professional has done this, with the result being greater visibility in brighter conditions.

The second significant improvement is the jobsite durability of the new units.

There is a much stiffer housing, and both units are covered by a rubber casing and backed by IP 65 rating against dust and water, so these two lasers are rated to withstand drops from 1.5m. This more robust designand build quality is going to not only enhance the lifespan of the lasers on worksites, but also ensure their accuracy over time.

Bosch has further improved ease of use with some cool new additions like vibration feedback on the GLM 50-27 CG for when you can’t see the unit’s screen. The vibration signals the measurement has been recorded. As well as an audio signal, brighter display, new measuring functions and an improved menu, it’s straightforward and intuitive to use.

TEST #1: BUILD QUALITY
You can straight away feel the improved build quality of these new Bosch units. They don’t feel like toys, fit well into your hand and feel solid from the internal structure to the panels, screen and rubber casing. They look and feel worksite-ready, and we decided to put the pair to the test.

Essentially it was just a matter of dropping the units from between waist and shoulder height as that’s a typical working situation for these tools. We dropped them onto hard ground and into puddles of water with no ill effects whatsoever. The rubber casing and build quality did a great job at protecting the sensitive devices.

We’re happy to report our drops and swims didn’t bother this pair at all.

TEST #2: THE BOSCH MEASUREON APP
The process of connecting the GLM 50-27 CG is as easy as pressing the Bluetooth icon. After watching a 3-minute video tutorial I was effortlessly creating rooms in the app, adding in digital windows and doors and a pile of other great time-saving features. Bosch has done a first-class job on the connectivity and usability of both the laser measurer and the MeasureON app, which got an interface upgrade at the beginning of this year.

If you invest 5 minutes or so into watching a few YouTube clips, you won’t have any problems utilising the complete set of features of the GLM 50-27 CG.

THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY
There is nothing but good things to say here as the units are significantly better tools than their predecessors on all levels. Seeing them side-by-side with the old models you could be excused for thinking Bosch would have added at least 25%-50% on top of the RRP. But to Bosch’s credit, the pricing is pretty much the same as the previous models, even with all the improvements.

Excellent work, Bosch.
