Boot campaign to raise breast cancer awareness

In May, you will notice the EWIT team wearing our pink and purple boots out and about around the community in support of Steel Blue’s What a Pair campaign.

Our great friends have been supporting Breast Cancer Care (BCC) for 18 years through the pink and purple boot initiative. Steel Blue donates $10 from every pair of pink and purple boots sold back to BCC in Australia and runs the same initiative for Sweet Louise in New Zealand with their pink boots.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation figures show that 58 Australians are diagnosed with breast cancer every day. Of the 58, three of these people will be young women. Australian men are impacted also, with close to one in 550 diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

If we consider these statistics, it is likely that at some point in our lives, we will all know someone who is impacted by breast cancer. I know my family has certainly been impacted by breast cancer with diagnoses in both the women and men in my family.

Early detection is incredibly important; the What a Pair campaign encourages Australians to check their breasts regularly for lumps and abnormalities. In each pair of pink and purple boots, you will find a shower tag with diagrams on how to perform a self-check breast exam.

“Steel Blue is incredibly proud to commemorate the $2M fundraising milestone in support of BCC. For 18 years, our partnership has helped provide free-of-charge breast cancer nursing, counselling, financial and practical support through BCC,” Steel Blue CEO Peter Bell said.

“Our breast cancer range of boots help create more conversations, awareness and encourage people to conduct regular breast checks through the shower tag included in every pair of pink and purple boots sold; the impact of these is immeasurable. “Combined with our fundraising initiative, we are helping these organisations support the community while they see an increase in clients and demands for their valuable services particularly during challenging economical times.

“These partnerships are core to Steel Blue’s DNA and something our team advocates every day.”

Empowering women is part of the EWIT ethos; supporting the health and well-being of women is vitally important. We are proud to support Steel Blue and the What a Pair campaign and encourage people to self-check and get any changes or abnormalities checked out.
